The Granfondo Internazionale Gavia e Mortirolo is a non-competitive cycling event held at the Palasport in Ponte di Legno, Valle Camonica. Participants select from three alpine road routes linked to the Gavia, Mortirolo, and Adamello Group: a 45.76 km route with 1,742 m elevation gain, a 110.85 km route, and a 141.25 km route with 3,554 m elevation gain. The roads are closed to traffic from morning until late afternoon, a significant factor on these narrow mountain ascents. The same weekend features a Gravel Experience, offering one-day and two-day options on alpine dirt roads.
The long route ascends the Gavia and then the Mortirolo from the Mazzo di Valtellina side, a renowned Giro d'Italia approach. The medium route also features the Gavia, then ascends the Mortirolo from Grosio. The short route climbs the Gavia before returning to Ponte di Legno, outside the timed section. This event is for cyclists aiming to challenge themselves on roads frequented by Giro riders, rather than pursuing a formal race outcome. Gs Alpi, with over two decades of experience in cycling and granfondo events, organizes the event. The entry package includes a commemorative jersey, aid stations, mechanical and medical support, showers, a pasta party, and secure bike parking at the finish.
