The bike leg sends athletes 195 kilometers over the Stelvio Pass. ICON Livigno Xtreme Triathlon is a full-distance extreme triathlon based around Livigno, with a 3.8-kilometer cold-water swim, that long mountain bike ride, and a 42-kilometer run to the finish at Carosello 3000.
The course is built around altitude, cold water, and a huge climb rather than speed-friendly conditions. Athletes race with support teams, and the event publishes a race manual covering rules for both. Its own race stories focus on the mental side: people talk about wanting to climb the Stelvio, asking whether they really are an “Icon,” and crying at the finish after getting someone through the day.
