Tartufo Trail Running is a mountain trail race held in Calestano, within Italy’s Parma Apennines, during early October. Four routes are available, ranging from a 9 km option with 450 m of elevation gain to a 50 km ultra covering 3,042 m of climbing. This variety accommodates first-time participants, younger runners, and seasoned mountain racers on the same event day.
The courses traverse Monte Sporno, Montagnana, the Salti del Diavolo rock formations, the Via degli Scalpellini, and segments of the Via Francigena. The region is situated within the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve. The race highlights the local Food Valley heritage, referencing Fragno truffles, Parma ham, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and wines from the nearby hills. The 9 km race is included in the Coppa Italia Giovani, while the longer distances award ITRA points and contribute to UTMB Index qualification.
