Valmalenco UltraDistance Trail

Valmalenco UltraDistance Trail is a mountain ultratrail held in Chiesa in Valmalenco, Sondrio, Lombardy, near the Italy-Switzerland border. The primary event is 90 km along the Alta Via della Valmalenco, with a 35 km option for a demanding alpine day. It takes place in late July, is UTMB Index certified, and suits runners experienced with technical trails, sustained climbs, and high mountain environments. The 90 km course crosses wild paths in the central Alps, passing 15 mountain refuges and featuring four ascents over 2,600 m. With 6,000 m of elevation gain, it requires more than endurance; pacing, mountain expertise, and weather assessment are crucial. The 35 km race is also challenging, offering 2,450 m of elevation gain. Italian trail runners constitute a significant portion of participants. This is the event's seventh edition. Recent 90 km winners include Daniele Nava and Giulia Saggin, while Luca Arrigoni and local runner Raffaella Rossi won the 35 km race.
