The Hachimantai City Athletics Championship is an unofficial track and field meet held on a dirt track at the Hachimantai City General Athletic Park Multipurpose Sports Plaza in Iwate Prefecture. It takes place in June, beginning in the morning, and is open to participants of any age or gender, from within or outside the city. The objective is to identify Hachimantai's fastest runners, best jumpers, and strongest throwers, despite the city lacking a complete athletics stadium.
The program includes short races, middle-distance races, long jump, and javelin throw. Divisions are available for adults, high school students, junior high students, upper elementary students, and an open section for fourth graders and younger. General and high school athletes compete in the 100m and 3000m, junior high athletes in the 100m and 1500m, and elementary divisions use shorter distances like 800m or 1000m. Results are recorded manually using stopwatches, video, and tape measures, aligning with the meet's grassroots character. Entry costs 500 yen per event, with a participant limit of approximately 500.
