Kustmarathon Zeeland is a coastal running event in Zeeland, located in the southwest Netherlands, taking place in early October. The full marathon is 42.195 kilometers. The event also features a Ladiesrun, Light Kustrun, Mini Marathon, Bike Tour, Walking Marathon, Beach Challenge, Canitrail, and a 16-kilometer Trailrun. Over 10,000 participants attend, with runners from twelve countries, giving it the feel of a regional sports weekend rather than a single road race.
The marathon course utilizes the Zeeland coast as its primary challenge: runners encounter climbs and descents, North Sea winds, sand, salt air, and long sections alongside water, beach, and dunes. The route incorporates a 9-kilometer stretch on the Oosterscheldekering storm-surge barrier, crosses the Veerse Gatdam between Noord-Beveland and Walcheren, passes Domburg, and includes parts of the Westkapelle Sea Dike. The Trailrun offers a more rugged version of this environment, with beach, forest, dunes, soft sand, muddy sections, and short elevation changes near Zoutelande. Sunday is traditionally set aside for the Walking Marathon, and Omroep Zeeland provides kilometer-by-kilometer coverage.
