Thousands of Dutch local-government workers compete in the NK Veldloop voor Ambtenaren, the Dutch cross-country championship for civil servants. This race is organized by a municipality on a weekday, with Rheden having hosted and Wijk aan Zee among the locations.
The Wijk aan Zee race sent runners through the dunes and onto the beach, featuring a section known as the “Hell of the West.” That 35th running attracted approximately 2,700 participants from 150 municipalities, uniting colleagues from across the country even when it rained.
