Arctic Alta combines winter racing with summer trail running in Alta: skis and fat bikes are featured in February, followed by ultra-distance running in August. The ski race offers 12 km, 19 km, and 46 km options. The fatbike race uses 19 km and 46 km distances. The running program ranges from a short 6 km trail race up to 16 km, 29 km, 50 km, 100 km, and 160 km.
The ski marathon is changing from freestyle to classic style. The goal is to involve more recreational skiers in the longest distance and also draw stronger elite racers. The 100 km ultra begins and ends at Tverrelvdalen Ungdomshus. It follows the 50 km course, meaning the longest runners share the same central point as the shorter races instead of taking a separate point-to-point route.
