The Østmarka Trail Challenge is a demanding trail race held in Østmarka, the woodland east of Oslo, Norway. The primary Flyktningeruta course spans approximately 37 km, beginning in Enebakk by Øyeren and concluding at Skullerud in Oslo. Participants navigate mostly blue-marked trails, encountering about 900 meters of elevation gain, with sufficient ascents and rugged terrain to be classified as moderately challenging by the organizers.
The course traces sections of Flyktningeruta, a historical escape path used during World War II for clandestine departures from the country. This connection imbues the race with a narrative depth beyond a typical forest run, linking the course to actual wartime movements across the same landscape. Organized by Østmarka Mjød & Knivstikkarlag, the event attracts both competitive athletes and individuals motivated by the opportunity to traverse deep into Østmarka on a designated point-to-point route.
