EDP New Generation

EDP New Generation is a running event in Lisbon for children and teenagers aged 6 to 17. Entry is free, with races divided by age group. It is part of the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon program and organized by Maratona Clube de Portugal. The races begin in the afternoon on the road in front of the Belém Cultural Center at Praça do Império, offering younger runners an official athletics setting without making the day about chasing times. The distances are short and suitable for each age group: 600m, 900m, 1500m, and 2500m. Separate male and female categories exist for ages 6-8, 9-11, 12-13, and 14-17. There is no timing system, the participant limit is capped, and every finisher receives an official medal and souvenirs. The format focuses on introducing young athletes to race-day routines rather than ranking them by seconds.
