Povoação Trail

Povoação Trail is a March trail-running event held in Povoação, a town on São Miguel in the Azores. It offers runners a steep island race day instead of a flat road run. The distances include a 50 km Trail Ultra with 3500 m of climbing, a 30 km Trail with 2000 m of climbing, and a 15 km Trail Sprint with 800 m of climbing. A 9 km walk with 350 m of climbing is also available for those who want to experience the trails without the competitive distances. The races begin throughout the morning, starting with the Ultra, followed by the 30 km race, the sprint, and the walk. HL Runners Club organizes the event with the Municipal Chamber of Povoação. Povoação has been a municipality since 1839, adding historical context. The Ultra is challenging; a winning time just over five hours indicates rapid movement over significant ascents. Results typically show a predominantly Portuguese field, with bib numbers, nationalities, and age details recorded for each participant.
