Σχετικά με τον αγώνα
The PT281 Ultramarathon begins at Belmonte Castle and covers 281 kilometers across Beira Baixa to Proenca-a-Nova. This non-stop trail ultramarathon takes place in inland eastern Portugal, near the Spanish border, typically in July. Participants have 66 hours to complete the course, which demands more than just endurance: runners must navigate using GPS, carry essential supplies between aid stations, and manage extended sections with significant self-reliance. It is frequently cited as one of Portugal's most demanding ultras, with temperatures that can exceed 40C, making the course feel severe from the outset.
The course crosses the entire Beira Baixa region, a striking and sparsely populated area of Portugal where remoteness contributes to the difficulty. This event is not designed for large crowds or continuous support; seasoned ultrarunners participate because the distance, heat, navigation, and open terrain challenge their self-management skills. Many who finish describe the PT281 as a personal battle of body and mind, rather than a competition against others. The event also holds a significant local lore, captured in phrases like “281 chances to enter the legend” and the direct Portuguese notion that this is the race to experience if one seeks a profound, almost divine, challenge.
