The Trail da Raia crosses the border region between Portugal and Spain, utilizing the Malcata, Mesas, and Gata mountain ranges. This trail running series follows rural paths, schist and granite tracks, and narrow routes through gorse, reeds, granite slabs, and shaded areas of Portuguese oak. The event accommodates various fitness levels, offering routes suitable for leisurely runs in nature and for those seeking competitive performance.
The course crosses the Portugal-Spain border, following old smuggler paths over rugged terrain with expansive views of both countries on the Ultra Trail. Participants will pass water mills, rock-hewn tombs, a suspension bridge, and woodlands of oak, chestnut, pine, and eucalyptus. The trails are characterized as fast, with solid footing and alternating ascents and descents, emphasizing rhythm and runnable mountain sections alongside challenging terrain.
