Σχετικά με τον αγώνα
Ultra X Madeira begins and ends in Machico, located on the eastern side of Madeira island, Portugal, with the event taking place in November. This trail race series has significant elevation changes, offering four distinct distances: a 110 km race spread over two days, a 60 km race, a 50 km race, and a 25 km race. The primary 110 km course features 3,685 meters of elevation gain, the 50 km course includes 2,815 meters, and even the 25 km course presents 1,970 meters, indicating that all distances require strong mountain running capabilities.
The race routes incorporate Madeira's levadas, which are narrow pathways alongside irrigation channels that transport water throughout the island. This network, extending approximately 2,000 km, was constructed from the 16th century onwards to channel water from the northern regions to agricultural areas in the south. Participants will also traverse an island landscape defined by laurel forests, with certain areas of Madeira designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites due to their dense native woodlands. Post-race, runners can explore Machico and the nearby city of Funchal, which offer numerous activities beyond the trails, including Madeira wine tasting, enjoying espetadas (traditional skewers), sampling fresh fish and exotic fruits, and experiencing the unique local tradition of riding wicker sleds down paved streets for two kilometers.
