Haunted 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at Punta Gorda, FL (41)
The Haunted 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon is a Halloween-themed US Road Running event in Punta Gorda, Florida. It starts at 8:00 AM from 670 Cooper Street. Participants can select from 5K, 10K, or 13.1-mile distances. Walkers are welcome, as the organizer designs races for both running and walking. All participants must register in advance via RunSignup; no race-day registration is available. Packet pickup begins 30 minutes before the start and concludes 10 minutes prior.
The course consists of asphalt, utilizing repeating out-and-back loops from a single start area. Parking is available by the baseball fields, with restrooms located near the start/finish line. The 5K covers the loop twice, the 10K covers it four times, and the half marathon completes its longer out-and-back course six times. All events have a 3-hour-30-minute time limit. Finishers will receive medals, and there will be an award for best costume. Runners can also accumulate points for the US Road Running series.
Rock and Run for the Rescue 10K/5K/1-Mile Dog Jog
Rock and Run for the Rescue is an annual November race morning in North Port, Florida, featuring a 10K, a 5K, and a 1-mile Dog Jog, all starting at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. The 10K begins at 7:45 AM, followed by the 5K and Dog Jog at 8:00 AM. This event supports Rescue Garage and is designed for both runners and participants with dogs, not exclusively for typical road-race competitors.
The course begins and ends within the park, proceeding onto gravel and grass trails before reaching paved roads near Big Slough Canal and Reisterstown Road. All finishers will receive medals, with the first 250 entrants assured one. The 5K and 10K races also offer overall and age-group awards, while the Dog Jog includes awards for small, medium, and large dogs. The event also features packet pickup, race-day registration (card or Apple Pay accepted), post-race refreshments, additional merchandise, and auction items, with all auction proceeds benefiting Rescue Garage.
Gobbler 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at Venice, FL (45)
The Gobbler 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon in Venice begins at Shamrock Park, with the start line situated on the path behind the Nature Center. This is a small-format road and path race offering three distances: a 5K, a 10K, and a 13.1-mile half marathon. All participants must register via RunSignup prior to race day; packet pickup occurs during a brief window on race morning before the start.
The course consists of concrete and asphalt, featuring a straightforward out-and-back layout for each distance. The 5K covers the route once, the 10K twice, and the half marathon completes the out-and-back four times, all within a 3 hour 30 minute time limit. Participants receive medals, awards are presented, series points are awarded, and a best costume prize adds a playful holiday theme to the event.
Trail Hog Half Marathon
Trail Hog is a trail race held in Joseph D. Grant Park, a large park east of San Jose near Mount Hamilton. Options include a half marathon, 10K, 5K, and hiking/walking. This annual Brazen Racing event is part of the Brazen Ultra Half Series, which features challenging half marathons around the San Jose and San Francisco area. These routes often exceed 13.1 miles, with significant climbs and descents on rough trails.
The half marathon course begins and ends near the Mount Hamilton Road parking area. It follows an out-and-back path through park trails including Dutch Flat, Dairy, Brush, Eagle, Felipe, Barn, Hotel, Bass Lake, Canada de Pala, and San Felipe. Runners will encounter hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians on the shared trail system, so expect loose rock, dirt, sticks, and uneven terrain. The course ascends from approximately 1,440 feet to over 1,970 feet, with the summit reached early in the race. The name is inspired by park wildlife, such as wild pigs and tarantulas. Brazen Racing enhances the local race atmosphere with complimentary photos taken by volunteer photographers.
Islamorada Running Co. Event Islamorada
Islamorada Running Co. Event Islamorada is a small race series in Islamorada, Florida, with its main weekend held annually at the beginning of December. The core lineup gives runners a half marathon, a 10K, the Rumrunner Run 5K/10K, and the Beach'n Beer Mile, so the series ranges from a normal road-race morning to a short beach-and-beer novelty event.
The longer Islamorada races start early, with the half marathon and 10K going off at 7:00 AM, while the Rumrunner Run starts at 8:00 AM and the Beach'n Beer Mile waits until noon. The series also includes a St. Paddy's Island 5K/10K, which adds another island-themed race option outside the December set.
Scrub Jay Races
Scrub Jay Races offers a 5K and a trail 10K at Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey, Florida. The race hub is located near the Nature Center at Lake Osprey. Both the in-person 5K and the Scramble 10K begin at 8:00 a.m., utilizing separate starting points and routes before concluding through the picnic area, close to the post-race gathering. Virtual 5K and 10K races are also available. This event has been held annually since 2000. All proceeds from entry fees and vendor contributions benefit Friends of Oscar Scherer Park Inc. and the Florida Scrub-Jay.
The 5K course is designed for road runners. It commences near the Nature Center, proceeds along the main park road, and then transitions to prepared park trails featuring crushed shell, pavers, roots, ruts, and a brief sugar-sand stretch before the finish. The Scramble 10K presents a more challenging route, intended for trail runners. It consists primarily of unpaved trails, sugar sand, minor elevation changes, pedestrian underpasses and overpasses, and passes through habitat restoration zones. Dogs and strollers are prohibited on both courses. Participants completing the race receive a custom medal. Chip-timed results can be delivered via text or email. The post-race refreshments include hot dogs, fruit, and snacks, with veggie dogs available upon request.
