The Pride 5K is a 5K run and walk in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood, starting at Centre Street and University Avenue. It is part of Pride Week, and the field can reach about 1,700 runners and walkers, with people coming from around the world. The event is built for both runners and walkers, not just racers chasing a time.
Participants are encouraged to wear rainbow gear, so the start line is part road race and part Pride gathering. The race raises about $40,000 for charity partners, with funds supporting San Diego Pride and The LGBT Center’s Youth Housing Project. That gives the event a clear local purpose beyond the 5K itself: money from the morning helps support Pride programming and youth housing work in the San Diego LGBTQ community.
