The Polar Bear Winter Classic is a winter road race in Indianapolis held in the second half of February, marking Indy’s first major road race of the year. The event is based at Fowling Warehouse Indianapolis and offers runners three options: a 5K, a 5-mile race, or The Bear, which combines the 5K and 5-mile race for a total of 8.1 miles.
Now in its 45th year under SJC Racing, it is one of the oldest races in Indianapolis. The format appeals to those seeking a standard early-season race and those desiring the added challenge of completing both distances in a single morning. The first 1,000 participants receive a finisher medal and a Wear the Bear winter hat. Cash prizes are available, age-group awards are presented for all three distances, and the post-race gathering takes place inside Fowling Warehouse.
