The Black Nurses of Southern Maryland Health Fair and Walk/Run pairs a community health fair with a 1.5-mile walk/run and a 5K in Fort Washington, Maryland. It is held at 1171 Tucker Road and starts in the morning, with registration and race packet pickup before the walk/run begins. People can also choose a Health Fair and Screening Only option, so the event works for runners, walkers, families, volunteers, and neighbors who mainly want the health services.
The race is organized by Black Nurses of Southern Maryland, Incorporated, a nursing group focused on better nursing care, health equity for Black communities, and reducing health disparities in minority communities. Free health screenings are offered before and during the race morning, and the health fair includes several vaccines. The event’s message is to “walk/run with purpose,” and the day includes welcome remarks, a warm-up, the walk/run, and closing activities afterward.
