The Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Run begins next to Morro Rock in Morro Bay, California, directing runners onto the beach. This established annual July race offers a 6-mile Rock to Pier Fun Run, a Rock’n Around the Pier Half Marathon, and a virtual participation choice. Both live races commence in the morning at Morro Rock. The event centers on sand, the shoreline, and the certainty that participants should anticipate wet footwear.
The 6-mile course proceeds north along the beach from Morro Rock to the Cayucos Pier. Finishers can catch a bus back, as parking is limited in Cayucos and more accessible at Morro Rock. The half marathon follows the same initial path to the pier, then reverses course southward. It includes a diversion through Cloisters Park around mile 10.5 before concluding back at Morro Rock. Aid stations are positioned along the routes. Breakfast and awards are presented post-race at Morro Rock. Dogs are restricted from the course during Snowy Plover nesting periods. The shorter race welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels, allowing newcomers to run alongside experienced athletes.
