The Chupacabra Trail Run at Copper Breaks State Park, near Quanah, Texas, takes runners over grass, rock, sandstone, and single-track dirt. Distances range from 9K to 50 miles, with an additional 9K ruck option requiring a minimum 25-pound load. The event is held in March, with historical race-day temperatures between 41 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Participants in the 53K and 50-mile races have 16 hours to complete the course.
The Copper Breaks course incorporates state park trails and Bull Canyon. The 50-mile route features approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain, making it runnable but not flat. Longer-distance runners must carry a headlamp and a hydration system. Pacers are permitted on the final loop. Aid stations provide both hot and cold food, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice. A distinct Waco Chupacabra Trail Run, held at Cameron Park, concludes the Huaco Cuatro Trail Run Series. This event offers 5K and 15K distances, finisher medals, age-group awards, and a 3.5-hour time limit for the 15K.
