Dinosaur Valley Endurance Run is a fall trail race at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas, with every distance run entirely on unpaved trails. The menu runs from 5 miles through 25K and 50K to 100K and 100 miles, so the same event serves short-course trail runners and ultrarunners chasing a very long day. The series started in 2014 and is put on by The Active Joe, with Libby Jones listed as race director.
The loop course uses double track through open fields, single track in wooded sections, packed dirt, smaller and larger rocks, slick rock, roots, and two river crossings per loop. It is not a flat rail-trail race: runners get rolling climbs, longer ascents and descents, and overlooks where the park opens up for miles. The 100K and 100-mile races can count toward Western States qualification when runners meet the required time standards, and 100-mile entrants also receive an official 100K split. The event has also put money back into Dinosaur Valley State Park, including a donation for a rescue skid that attaches to the park’s EMS ATV for trail emergencies.
