Give 'N Gobble 5K

Give 'N Gobble is a Thanksgiving morning turkey trot in the Portland area, centered on Sherwood and run in partnership with the Sherwood YMCA. It started in 2007 and offers a choice between a 5K walk/run and a 10K run. Annually, about 2,000 to 2,200 people participate, making it feel like a neighborhood holiday gathering as much as a race. The event also functions as a community food drive; registered participants receive free shirts when they bring a bag of non-perishable food, while supplies last. The race supports Helping Hands Food Bank, an Oregon Food Bank affiliate serving local families with pantry staples, dairy, fruit, and vegetables. Give 'N Gobble has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and collected tens of thousands of pounds of food. Its fundraising has also supported the Helping Hands Backpack Meals for Kids program, providing over 100,000 meals for at-risk children. Volunteers are essential to the event, with many returning annually to work specific course or stadium locations. The event's premise is straightforward: move before Thanksgiving dinner, bring food for others, and spend the morning with family, friends, and neighbors.
