Σχετικά με τον αγώνα
Every finisher in the Hope Watermelon 5K receives a locally grown Hope watermelon, indicating the nature of this small-town Arkansas race. The event begins and ends at Fair Park in Hope, with the start at Mockingbird and Park Drive. The main events include a certified 5K for runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes. Race-day registration opens at 6:00 AM. The wheelchair race starts first, followed by the kids' Melon Mile after the 5K events. The Melonvine Striders organize the race, and the course is USATF certified AR24012WJT.
The route departs Fair Park on Park Drive, proceeds along Elm Street to Main Street for a long straightaway, then follows a gentle downhill, a gradual climb toward 16th Street, and a downhill section before returning via Grady Street, 7th Street, and Park Drive. It is mostly flat, featuring a few winding turns and a final straight back into Fair Park. The race originated in the late 1970s as a four-mile event and has been part of the Arkansas RRCA Grand Prix Series since the 1990s. Participants include runners, walkers, wheelchair racers, children, age-group competitors from 0-9 to 80-plus, and high school track teams competing for team awards.
