Ruck & Roll is a fall ruck and adaptive sports event held at Blue Marsh National Recreation Area’s State Hill Boat Launch Area in Wernersville, Pennsylvania. Participants can ruck by walking or hiking with a pack, vest, or no weight. Options include Short (3-4 miles), Mid (8-9 miles), and Long (13-14 miles). The Roll event offers a separate category for adaptive athletes using handcycles, recumbents, and other seated mobility equipment; adaptive athletes register at no cost.
The ruck divisions allow participants to select their desired challenge level. Ranger is the heavy competitive option, Scout is a lighter competitive division, Cadet is for ages 15 and under and 70-plus, and Infantry is a non-competitive choice with no awards. Challenge stations incorporate strength, thinking, and adventure tasks. Veterans receive a 50% discount. The event benefits the IM ABLE Foundation’s initiatives for veterans and adaptive athletes. Following the rucks, the day includes a chili cook-off with a cash prize, chili for registered participants, nature crafts for children, and s’mores around a campfire.
