The Kenwood Footrace begins early on Independence Day in Kenwood, California, offering 10K and 3K races through Sonoma Valley wine country. The 10K, considered California’s oldest running 10K footrace, is the primary event. The 3K allows families, younger runners, and those preferring a shorter morning run to participate in the same event. The races commence shortly after sunrise, with the 3K starting first, followed by the 10K a few minutes later.
The 10K route crosses rolling hills, vineyards, and country roads near Kenwood, presenting a wine-country road race rather than a flat city course. The 3K features a straightforward, fast out-and-back course suitable for families and casual runners. The Empire Runners Club directs the event, which kicks off July 4th morning in Kenwood Plaza, preceding the local parade, pancake breakfast, and Rotary Club Shindig. As entries can sell out, participants typically register in advance rather than on the day.
