Malverne 5K Run for Education

The Malverne 5K Run for Education is an annual 5K run-walk on Long Island, starting at Howard T. Herber Middle School. It raises funds for youth programs, school activities, and extracurriculars within the Malverne school district. The event attracts a local field, with over 140 people participating in the 5K and more than 200 people attending the morning’s races. The route crosses Malverne, Lakeview, and Lynbrook, reflecting the three communities served by the school district. The nonprofit Malverne Educational and Fitness Foundation established the race and has organized it annually, with the exception of the pandemic year. A 200-meter kids’ fun run on Wicks Lane now precedes the 5K each year, offering younger children their own race; it had nearly 40 participants.
