Every finisher in the OADAY 5K / Remembrance Walk receives Narcan, indicating this event is more than a typical park race with a cause. It takes place at South County Regional Park in Punta Gorda, Florida. The event includes a chip-timed 5K run/walk beginning early in the morning, followed by a 1-mile remembrance walk. It is linked to International Overdose Awareness Day, the yearly campaign to remember those lost to overdose, support grieving families, and promote overdose-prevention education.
The 5K begins and concludes at the same point, while the remembrance walk offers a shorter option for families and supporters. Photographs of individuals lost to the opioid crisis are exhibited on race day, and the event commemorates Kelly Pierce Peterson, whose memory is connected to its advocacy. Teams can register for the Kelly Team Trophy, given to the largest group, attracting runners, walkers, families, friends, local clubs, and individuals participating in honor of someone. The day also features raffles, a DJ, prevention-resource booths, age-group medals, overall and masters awards, with proceeds after expenses benefiting Cathy’s Place of Charlotte County and Drug Free Charlotte County.
