The Ruck to Remember is a free 5K ruck and 1-mile walk held at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, Louisiana. It is organized by Camp Beauregard MWR in conjunction with Louisiana Army Survivor Outreach Services. The event begins in the morning at the Louisiana Maneuvers and Military Museum on post, with the primary purpose of honoring fallen service members. Service members from the Louisiana National Guard, employees of the Louisiana Military Department, LANG retirees and veterans, Gold Star Families, the public, and spectators are welcome to attend. Preregistration is required for all attendees. Entry to the post requires a full ID check, and individuals aged 16 and older must present valid identification at the main gate.
Both the 5K ruck and the 1-mile walk start and finish at the military museum. For the 5K, participants carry a weighted pack, with organizers suggesting the use of canned goods or canned goods combined with weight plates. The collected cans are distributed by Louisiana Army Survivor Outreach Services to Gold Star Families facing hardship. Those who choose to ruck with plates may donate canned food at check-in. The 1-mile walk is accessible to all ages, permits strollers, and does not allow pets. A personal memorial element is included: participants receive blank cardstock dog tags and zip ties to write the name of a service member they wish to honor and attach to their ruck.
