Run 4 Brighter Days is a 5K run/walk held annually on September 5th at Lynches River County Park in Coward, South Carolina. A Kids Fun Run precedes the main 5K event. This race supports National Suicide Prevention Month and generates funds for The Jonathan C. Smith Foundation. The foundation focuses on teen suicide prevention, teen brain health, education, advocacy, and support for at-risk youth. Participation options include running, walking, volunteering, cheering, or completing a virtual 5K for those unable to attend in person.
The event follows a straightforward community race structure. It features a free Kids Fun Run for children aged 10 and under, and a reduced-price 5K option for those 12 and under. The 5K offers age-group awards, as well as awards for overall, Masters, and Grand Masters categories. All in-person participants receive a race shirt and a finisher medal. Virtual runners will have their shirt and medal mailed to them post-race. The foundation's commitment extends beyond the event, covering mentorship, coaching, clinical navigation, resource provision, community education, and advocacy concerning brain health and suicide prevention.
