Run for the House is a Houston 5K and kids' 1-mile race held at Sam Houston Park. It offers a certified 5K for timed, competitive runners and a shorter, non-competitive mile for families. The 5K welcomes runners, walkers, and those using mobility devices, while the 1-mile is designed for children and their accompanying adults. Race morning begins early, with on-site registration prior to the races and a brief post-race gathering.
The event benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston, with all proceeds aiding children and families served by the charity. RMHC Greater Houston, established in 1978, provides lodging, meals, and a place to stay near Texas Medical Center facilities for families with seriously ill children, at no charge. Its local network includes Holcombe House, rooms within Texas Children's Hospital, Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, and MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital, along with a CareMobile offering immunizations and health checks in communities. Following the run, attendees convene at Sam Houston Park for refreshments, awards, activities, and a Santa photo opportunity. Registered runners will receive a shirt, finisher medal, and a gift bag.
