About
The Sarah Strong 5K and 1 Mile Kids Fun Run starts and finishes at Bicentennial Park in downtown Elkhart, Indiana. This is a family-friendly 5K run/walk with a separate one-mile race for kids ages 12 and under. Runners can compete for awards, walkers can go at an easy pace with friends, and strollers are allowed on the course; dogs are not permitted for liability reasons.
The event supports Passionately Purple: The Sarah Crane Foundation, which assists local families facing cancer with supplies, counseling, and fundraising for Elkhart High School scholarships. The race originated from Sarah Crane’s story: she was an Elkhart student and athlete who battled Stage 4 colon cancer, and “SARAHSTRONG” emerged from her fight. Purple is significant because it represents the fight against all cancers and was Sarah’s favorite color. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers, plus the top three in each age division.
