The Sri Chinmoy 5K & 7-Mile in Prospect Park offers runners two morning race options on Brooklyn’s main park loop, both beginning at 9 AM. The 5K is slightly less than one full lap of Park Drive, while the 7-mile race involves two laps with a brief out-and-back on Center Drive. This event is organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, a volunteer-run group established in 1977 that now hosts over 1,700 races annually across the globe.
The course proceeds counterclockwise within the pedestrian lane of Park Drive, commencing just north of the Lincoln Road Lawns and concluding at Harry’s Wall. It crosses Prospect Park Lake, Long Meadow, Lookout Hill, and other well-known park landmarks, with aid stations positioned every mile. Participants receive custom medals and complimentary photos. A memorable post-race amenity is the serving of fresh hot pancakes with various toppings. Awards are presented for age group achievements in both distances. The event maintains the Sri Chinmoy tradition: operated by its own volunteers and without commercial sponsorships.
