The Upstate Strut for Childhood Cancer is a cross-country 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk held at Milliken Arboretum in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Proceeds benefit Upstate children with cancer, supporting Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas. A recent event generated over $65,000 for this cause. The event format features the 5K race beginning in the morning, followed by the 1-mile option suitable for walkers, families, and those preferring a shorter distance.
The participants range from competitive runners and casual joggers to families with strollers and organized teams. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as to winners in various male and female age groups, from youth categories up to 70-plus. Race shirts are provided to the first 200 registrants. Volunteers assist with event setup and day-of tasks. The event emphasizes community involvement, offering a competitive element for runners while maintaining a strong fundraising focus for every registration.
