The IRONMAN 70.3 Fortaleza begins with an ocean swim and follows the coastline in Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará in northeast Brazil, known for its beaches. This middle-distance triathlon is a regular fixture on the IRONMAN 70.3 calendar, with approximately ten years of local history. The course is designed to be flat and fast: a sea swim, a flat bike course, and a run along the coast. This configuration suits new triathletes and offers experienced competitors a course where pace is key. The event attracts many participants from Brazil's triathlon community, as well as athletes from neighboring countries and further afield, because of its World Championship qualification slots.
