About
The Göltzschtal Marathon takes place in Lengenfeld, a town in Germany's Vogtland region, and has been run annually since 1969. It is now held in April, having previously taken place in late autumn for many years. VfB Lengenfeld 1908 organizes the event. The day offers more than just a marathon: a half marathon, 10 km and 5 km races, a 1.5 km youth run, and two-person team participation are also included. This variety gives it the character of a local club event rather than a large-city competition.
The course begins at the Lengenfeld stadium on Waldkirchener Weg. It follows an out-and-back route on asphalt and well-maintained paths, making it easy to navigate as the return path is the same as the outbound one. The route heads toward Mylau, passing through a section of the Vogtland with narrow valleys, castles, and historic town centers. One prominent feature is an imposing castle. Since its combination with the Götzschtallauf, the event combines its extensive marathon history with a wider range of local races.
