Sobre esta carrera
The Rothaarsteig-Marathon Schmallenberg begins and ends at the Schützenhalle in Fleckenberg, a village within Schmallenberg in Germany's Sauerland region. This trail race takes place on the third Saturday of October, offering both a 42.2 km marathon and a 22.6 km half marathon. The marathon route includes an 838-meter climb, and the half marathon has 421 meters of elevation gain, distinguishing it from a flat road race with a woodland theme. Participants walking or using Nordic walking poles can also compete in the half marathon distance.
The course follows the natural paths of the Rothaarsteig, a long-distance ridge trail crossing the low mountains near Schmallenberg. Aid stations are positioned approximately every five kilometers, providing fruit and drinks. The event typically attracts between 501 and 1,000 participants. Now in its 20th year, having started in 2004, the race is also known as the FALKE Rothaarsteig-Marathon Schmallenberg. Over 150 volunteers contribute to its organization, adding local elements such as massages, a slideshow, live race updates, and over 100 cakes baked by volunteers for attendees.
