Tour of the Reservoir Open

The Tour of the Reservoir Open starts and finishes on Consett High Street, sending elite riders out from the town centre. Held in early June, this one-day National A road race is part of the National Road Series. The Open race is the longer of the two events, with men competing over approximately 158 km. The women’s Alexandra Tour of the Reservoir follows the same route pattern but covers a shorter 113 km. The course retains the Consett High Street finishing straight, though the exact route can vary between editions. The race rejoined the National Road Series after a five-year absence. Organisers have expressed interest in restoring its former stage-race format when resources permit. For the present, it remains a challenging one-day competition for club teams and elite domestic riders, supported by enthusiastic local crowds. The town-centre location also makes the day a free family occasion, featuring food stalls, live entertainment, children’s games, and cycling-related activities alongside the racing.
