Ravenna is dead flat—the Maratona di Ravenna Città d'Arte runs a 42km loop through the city's Byzantine mosaics and along the Lamone river with zero elevation gain. Cyclists dominate the region: the GF Nove Colli and Fiandre Cesenati are legendary gravel and road events in the rolling Romagna hills 20–30km inland, while the Gravel del Sale Fantini Club stays local on flatter terrain. Summer heat and humidity are fierce; most serious training happens in spring and autumn.
