Madison sits between Lakes Mendota and Monona, giving runners a flat, scenic isthmus with the Lakefront Trail as the go-to route for easy miles and the Madison Gospel 5K drawing a crowd each year. Cyclists dominate here: the Badfish Creek Time Trial Championships (20K and 40K courses) are serious affairs, while the longer Pick Me Up at the Border gravel ride (125km) heads north into rolling terrain that builds elevation as you leave Dane County.
