White Continent Triathlon

Sobre esta carrera
The White Continent Triathlon is a small swim-bike-run race on King George Island, located off the Antarctic Peninsula. It takes place in January as part of the larger White Continent trip, which also features a 50K, marathon, and half marathon. The participant limit is 20 triathletes, aligning with the logistical constraints: this is not a typical destination race with large crowds, frequent aid stations, and straightforward road access.
The race is short but demanding: up to 400 meters swimming, 20 km cycling, and a 5 km run. The exact swim distance requires government approval, a detail that highlights the nature of racing in Antarctica. Marathon Adventures states it organized Antarctica’s first official swim-bike-run event and presents this as the sole genuine triathlon on the continent. Participants travel through Punta Arenas and cross the Drake Passage by air at 31,000 feet, avoiding a difficult sea crossing before the competition.
