The Astberg-Lauf begins at the Astbergbahn valley station in Going am Wilden Kaiser, Tyrol, leading runners directly uphill to the Astberg chairlift mountain station. This mountain race features a primary 5.2 km course ascending 568 metres, complemented by a 2.9 km junior race with 280 metres of elevation gain. The event takes place on a Sunday in October, running from late morning through the afternoon.
The course, though short, is sufficiently steep that the ascent defines the challenge: participants start at the lift base on Kaiserweg and conclude high above Going at the chairlift station. Spectators can access the finish area by foot from Going in approximately 1.5 hours, making the race's summit accessible to more than just the competitors. Following the races, awards are presented at Blattlalm. The event is known as the “International Astberg Run” and is organized by Franz Puckl.
