Austria Backyard 7+1 is a backyard-format race in Kirchdorf in Tyrol, run on the same loop as the Austria Backyard Ultra. It starts 30 minutes after the main ultra, so the two fields stay separate and runners from the two races do not meet or help each other on the course.
The first seven laps work like a normal Backyard Ultra and add up to a marathon, but those lap times do not count in the result. Everyone stops after the eighth lap, and the fastest runner on that final lap wins, so the smart tactic is to conserve energy through the first seven yards and race the last one hard.
