The Austria Backyard Ultra - Loosdorf-Trail begins each hour from Loosdorf/Albrechtsberg an der Pielach, sending runners on the same 6.706 km loop. Each lap covers 4.167 miles, the standard Backyard Ultra distance. The rules are simple: complete the loop and be at the start before the hour concludes, or your race ends. No late starts are permitted, and the event continues until one runner remains to answer the hourly bell.
The loop commences with approximately 300 meters of asphalt before transitioning to a wide single-track path alongside the Pielach river. After about 1.5 km, it shifts to a dirt path, reaching a turnaround point 500 meters further. The course then enters the forest, where runners ascend 170 meters over the next 1.5 km to reach the Loosdorfer Gipfelkreuz summit cross. The return journey utilizes forest roads, meaning the race is more than a flat pacing challenge: seven laps surpass marathon distance, fifteen laps reach 100 km, and twenty-four laps total 100 miles.
