About this race
The International Wolfgangseelauf is a running weekend held in October at Wolfgangsee, a 10.3 km lake located in Austria’s Salzkammergut region. Approximately 4,000 participants compete in its main races, which offer various distances to accommodate different runners: the 5.2 km Panoramalauf starting in Strobl, the 10 km Uferlauf from Gschwendt, the 27 km Klassiker originating in St. Wolfgang, and the Salzkammergut Marathon beginning in Bad Ischl. All four Sunday races conclude in St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut, situated on the lake’s northern shore.
The main event is the 27 km circuit around Wolfgangsee, featuring nearly 300 metres of elevation change and a steep, wooded hill segment between Sankt Wolfgang and Sankt Gilgen. The marathon commences in the spa town of Bad Ischl, ascends gradually for about 15 km along a country road to Sankt Wolfgang, and then merges with the course used by the 27 km participants. The weekend also includes a Junior Marathon for children, a non-competitive Walk the Lake event for walkers and nordic walkers, an expo at Pfarrplatz St. Wolfgang, medical services, post-race massage, and arranged boat and bus transportation, with boat transfers included with registration.
