About this race

Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun begins in Austria’s Salzburg region’s Zeller See. Athletes undertake a 1.9 km swim, 90 km cycle, and 21.1 km run. The 70.3 designation signifies the total distance in miles, equivalent to 113 km. This event, part of the World Triathlon Corporation’s global Ironman 70.3 series, has been held annually since 2012. It marked Austria’s second WTC event at this distance, following Ironman 70.3 Austria. The course extends beyond Zell am See and Kaprun to neighboring towns like Bruck, Maishofen, and Piesendorf. The cycling route dictates the maximum number of participants. A modification to the bike course increased capacity from 1,800 to 2,200 slots, with the field eventually comprising around 2,500 athletes from over 60 countries. Competitive age-group athletes have used this race to secure qualification spots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. The event once featured a unique two-day format: an amateur-only race, succeeded by the World Championship for qualified athletes on the identical course.
