The Sparkasse 3-Länder-Marathon begins in Lindau, Germany, on Lake Constance and concludes in Bregenz, Austria. This 42.195-kilometer road race offers a unique three-country course, with participants running through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Approximately 60 percent of the route traces the shoreline of Lake Constance, and the entire course is notably flat, with a mere 17-meter elevation difference between its lowest and highest points.
The course departs from the historic island city of Lindau, proceeds along lakeside roads and paths, and enters Switzerland for a circuit around St. Margrethen. It then follows the Rhine River towards Austria before arriving in Bregenz. A distinctive feature of the course is the passage across the Seebühne, the open-air floating stage known for Bregenz's summer opera performances. Marathoners aged 40 and above are eligible to score points for the AWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings, attracting runners aiming for age-group qualification alongside those drawn to the international route.
