Tierschutzlauf, Vienna’s animal-welfare run, takes place on the Prater Hauptallee, with the start and finish near Meiereistraße. First held in 2011, the event is organized by the Vegan Society of Austria, with all proceeds supporting its campaigns and projects. It is part of the Wienläuft-Cup and attracts over 1,500 runners in a strong year, positioning it as a significant running event in Vienna.
The format accommodates animal lovers of various ages and fitness levels. It includes a free 100 m Bambinilauf for children up to age seven, alongside 5 km and 10 km main races for older participants. Children in the Bambinilauf create their own race numbers. An 850 m Schüler:innenlauf is available for ages eight to thirteen. The course utilizes the broad, flat Prater Hauptallee, avoiding a complex city route. The day focuses on running together, raising funds for animal protection, and providing a common starting point for families, club runners, and casual participants.
