Leuven is the Belgian epicentre for gravel and cyclocross racing, with the BK Gravel and Dwars door het Hageland drawing serious riders to the rolling Hageland region east of the city. The terrain shifts quickly from flat Flemish farmland to choppy, forested hills (200–250m elevation) within 15km, making it ideal for mixed-surface training. Runners find fast courses on the canal towpaths ringing the compact medieval centre, though most seek the wooded trails and slight undulation in the Meerdaalwoud forest immediately south.
