The Bello Gallico

About this race
The Bello Gallico begins and ends at the Roosenberg in Oud-Heverlee, with routes extending into the National Park Brabantse Wouden. This is a trail and walking event focused on long distances: runners select 100 km or 200 km, while walkers choose 80 km or 160 km. The event operates unsupported, meaning participants depend on official aid stations, volunteers, and other participants instead of external support crews.
The routes traverse unpaved paths and forest tracks, marked by reflective yellow arrows. The 100 km run and 80 km walk each consist of one loop through the national park. The longer distances involve repeating the base loop in reverse: two 100 km loops for the 200 km run and two 80 km loops for the 160 km walk. Aid stations are positioned approximately every 20 km, offering drinks and snacks, with a meal provided midway for the longest distances. A GPS tracker, required equipment including a survival bag, headlamp, and waterproof clothing, along with a post-race barbecue, contribute to its character as a practical, self-reliant ultra event, distinct from a road race with constant assistance.
