Jordan’s Run the Runway 5K Series: London places runners, walkers, wheelchair users, and Nordic pole walkers on the runway at Fanshawe College’s Aviation Centre on Air Ontario Drive in London, Ontario. The London event is a September evening 5K, run rain or shine. It is part of a Southwestern Ontario series with other airport races in Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, and St. Thomas-Elgin. It is presented by Siskinds LLP and raises money for the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario in memory of Jordan Strickland, whose connection to the Y and community work inspired the fundraiser.
The format is flexible: people can run the whole 5K, walk it, roll it, use poles, or mix methods, such as running half and walking half. There are high school student discounts, timed and untimed Kiddie Trot options of about 1K, and a virtual 5K for people who cannot get to the runway in person. Virtual participants can track their own time with any app and post a result or selfie online, though they are not eligible for finishing prizes. The series uses “earn your wings” language for people who register for multiple locations, and the London page lists team creation, fundraising leaderboards, donations, volunteers, event photos, and over a hundred participants.
